Public Diners
Nourish Scotland, a food policy NGO, is the leading group proposing, designing and advocating for a new state-supported infrastructure in Scotland–the public diner. We teamed up with them to create branding for their first community event.
In Scotland (and many other so-called “developed” countries), people benefit from public transport, public libraries, public housing, public parks, public wifi and even public health systems. Yet, very little work is done to create government-supported, affordable, and healthy food infrastructure. This is what Nourish Scotland is working to change.
A complex topic like this involves many people coming together, discussing, planning and organising for any lasting change to be made. So it was crucial that the event branding did not imply Nourish Scotland had things already figured out, and it needed to inspire people to want to contribute to this “work in progress”.
After several iterations, the final result used the right balance of sketches, engineering drawings and handwritten typography to represent the creative process, give insight into the complexity of the decisions that must be made and provide information to inspire ideas for further discussions.
The event was a huge success, and the Scottish Government has taken notice. To learn more about it all–follow Nourish Scotland updates, read their latest report or check out this Guardian article.
